The Swan, No. 12 is part of Hilma af Klint’s ambitious The Swan series, created in 1915. For af Klint, the swan was a powerful spiritual symbol representing the union of male and female, material and spiritual.

In this work, the bird gradually morphs from a representational figure into a series of abstract shapes—a process that captures her revolutionary approach to abstraction. Long hidden from the public eye, these works have now been embraced by the global art community, solidifying Hilma af Klint’s position as a legendary pioneer who saw beyond the physical world long before anyone else.
